Uppsala, Sweden's principal University town is about 80 km northwest of Stockholm. Built on the Fyris River, it is home to a magnificent 13th century cathedral and is notable also for being the birthplace of Ingrid Bergman. Uppsala Castle is also worth visiting for its coronation hall and dungeons. Although it is Sweden's 4th largest city, it has managed to retain a relaxed, small town character making it an ideal choice for a short visit. |
